Privacy Policy

Umbral is a local-first personal journal: your entries are stored on your device. We don't create an account for you, we don't run servers that store your journal, and we never sell or share your information.

What we do NOT collect

Your journal content —text, titles, moods, photos, tags, searches, and attachments— stays on your device (and in your private iCloud if you enable it). It is never sent to us or to third parties.

Data that may be collected (limited)

Usage analytics and crash reports — optional and off by default. If you turn them on in Settings, we use Google Firebase to receive anonymous usage data and technical crash reports, solely to improve the app. They never include your journal content.
Purchases — if you buy Umbral Premium, RevenueCat and Apple process that purchase history and an identifier to grant your license. It is not linked to your identity and not used for advertising.

None of this data is used to track you: no IDFA, no ad networks, no data brokers.

Permissions

The app requests camera / photo library access only when you choose to add a photo to an entry, Face ID / Touch ID only if you enable the app lock, and notifications only if you enable reminders. You can revoke any of these in iOS Settings.

Your controls

Export all your entries (text, Markdown, PDF, or a full backup) at any time.
Delete all your data from Settings → Delete All Data.
Turn analytics and crash reports off whenever you want.

Children

Umbral is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
